Doctoral Training Centre (DTC)

The first year of ENAIBLE is delivered through Oxford’s interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Centre (DTC), which has provided cohort-based doctoral training in the mathematical, physical and life sciences since 2002.

For over two decades, the DTC has supported more than 1,500 doctoral researchers across multiple interdisciplinary programmes and is now approaching its 25th year of operation.

The DTC provides:

  • Structured, cohort-based doctoral education.
  • Integration of quantitative and biological sciences.
  • Purpose-built training space within Oxford’s central science area.
  • A large and active cross-cohort community spanning more than 90 doctoral researchers per year.
  • An alumni network distributed across academia, industry, government and entrepreneurship.

For you, this means your Year 1 experience is not confined to a single programme. You learn alongside peers from adjacent disciplines, exchange ideas across thematic boundaries and develop relationships that often outlast the doctorate itself.

While ENAIBLE maintains a focused cohort identity, it is strengthened — not diminished — by being embedded within a much broader intellectual ecosystem.
